SAR Europe welcomes a new study on the EC’s annual Rule of Law reporting cycle

The study, conducted by Professor Laurent Pech and Dr. Petra Bard, offers a comprehensive account of the development of this new monitoring tool. Commissioned by the European Parliament’s Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs at the request of the LIBE and AFCO Committees, it recognises the limitations of the tool in its current form and outlines a series of recommendations designed to remedy the weaknesses identified. In particular SAR Europe welcomes the call for the media freedom pillar to be expanded to include all aspects of freedom of expression, including artistic freedom and academic freedom.
