The situation facing scholars in Afghanistan is dire.

Scholars at Risk and our partner organisations are racing to respond to hundreds of requests for help from Afghan candidates. We have already had a great response from our network, with dozens of institutions in Europe interested in hosting individuals. But additional outside support is essential, not least because the scale of the crisis demands more than what universities can do on their own.

SAR Europe coordinated a joint urgent appeal to European Governments and EU institutions, with specific recommendations for action to assist Afghanistan’s scholars, students and civil society actors. The appeal was endorsed by 50 higher education networks, associations and organisations, with signatures still being added.
