Inspireurope Philipp Schwartz Initiative Stakeholder Forum, Berlin, May 10-11, 2022
Tuesday, May 10, 2022 to Wednesday May 11, 2022
The Philipp Schwartz and Inspireurope Stakeholder Forum 2022 was convened jointly by the Philipp Schwartz Initiative of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Inspireurope project, a consortium of ten partner organisations across Europe committed to the protection and support of researchers at risk. Funded under the European Commission’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and led by Scholars at Risk Europe at Maynooth University, Ireland, Inspireurope anchors the excellent work already underway in Europe and strives to coordinate, expand and sustain such activities across Europe to support researchers at risk.
The 2022 Stakeholder Forum reflected on the situation and the work of displaced scholars who have found positions in other countries. It discussed the state of academic freedom in specific regions. It also presented mutual learning opportunities for at-risk scholars, academic mentors, and higher education administrators working to support at-risk academics and to strengthen academic freedom. In collaboration with Academics in Solidarity, a mentoring program hosted at Freie Universität Berlin, a particular focus was placed on offering information and coaching sessions for at-risk scholars who are working towards long-term professional perspectives.
Participants included Philipp Schwartz fellows, at-risk scholars supported by other organisations, mentors, university administrators, national, European, and international partner organisations, as well as other attendees from academia, government, and civil society.
The conference was a hybrid event, which was held in Berlin, as well as online; 239 individuals participate in this hybrid event. Portions of the online program can be found on the YouTube channel of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at https://www.youtube.com/user/AvHStiftung/videos
