Monday, October 12, 2020 – 14:00 to 16:00
Online
On October 12th 2020, SAR Europe (hosted at Maynooth University in Ireland) in cooperation with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, held an online meeting on developing a Scholars at Risk (SAR) section in Greece for interested higher education institutions, NGOs, government representatives, and individuals. SAR Sections are groups that are nationally or regionally focused and organized specifically to coordinate participation in SAR activities. They are often coordinated by a local steering committee or secretariat, in partnership with the SAR Secretariat.
To date, SAR has helped launch thirteen SAR sections around the world. For more information on this, please see the Scholars at Risk website here.
The meeting on October 12th at 2-4pm Greek time explored the current challenges facing scholars, and academic freedom globally and how Greek organisations and individuals can best respond. It looked at models of existing SAR sections in Europe and the possible structure and activities of a future SAR Greece section.
Ms Denise Roche, SAR Europe, Advocacy Manager delivered a presentation on SAR and how SAR Sections work. SAR Europe 2020 SAR Greece Section Building Presentation
