Update (18 April 2024): Additional funding for MSCA4Ukraine fellowships

The MSCA4Ukraine implementing partners welcome the news by the European Commission about the allocation of additional EUR 10 million for fellowships for researchers displaced from Ukraine.

The extra funding will enable around 50 additional researchers, including doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers, who were forced to flee Ukraine, to continue their work safely on research projects at host institutions based in the EU and Horizon Europe associated countries. It will also allow the researchers to access training, skills and career development opportunities. Specific support will be available for organisations hosting the researchers and those fellows relocating with their families.

As preparations for the second MSCA4Ukraine call for project proposals are currently in progress, we kindly ask to refrain from sending any queries on the forthcoming call until further notice.

 

The results of the first call were released in February 2023. Funded under the EU’s Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions, the scheme provides fellowship support to 125 researchers from Ukraine to continue their research in 21 host countries.

Overview of MSCA4Ukraine

As part of the EU’s response to the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine, a new dedicated fellowship scheme ―MSCA4Ukraine―was established to provide support to displaced researchers from Ukraine. This support will enable displaced researchers to continue their work at academic and non-academic organisations in EU Member States and Horizon Europe Associated Countries, while maintaining their connections to research and innovation communities in Ukraine. The scheme may also facilitate researchers’ reintegration in Ukraine if conditions for safe return are met, in order to prevent permanent brain drain, and contribute to strengthening the Ukrainian university and research sector and its collaboration and exchange with the international research community.

The MSCA4Ukraine Programme of the European Commission is implemented by a consortium comprised of Scholars at Risk Europe hosted at Maynooth University, Ireland (project coordinator),  the German Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the European University Association, with the French national PAUSE programme,hosted by the Collège de France, and the global Scholars at Risk Network participating as associated partners.

The MSCA4Ukraine scheme opened for applications in October 2022. In February 2023, fellowship awards were issued to 124 researchers in 21 host countries. A list of successful applications and projects is provided at www.sareurope.eu/msca4ukraine/fellowship-awards  

Стипендіальна програма MSCA4Ukraine 

У межах заходів ЄС у відповідь на вторгнення Російської Федерації в Україну оголошується нова цільова стипендіальна програма MSCA4Ukraine на підтримку дослідників-переселенців із України. Ця підтримка дасть змогу дослідникам-переселенцям продовжувати роботу в академічних і неакадемічних організаціях у державах-членах ЄС і в асоційованих країнах програми ЄС «Горизонт Європа» (Horizon Europe), зберігаючи зв’язки з дослідницькими та інноваційними спільнотами в Україні. Ця програма також може сприяти реінтеграції дослідників в Україні, щоб запобігти постійному «відтоку мізків» через еміграцію науковців, якщо будуть забезпечені умови для їхнього безпечного повернення, а також впливати на зміцнення українського університетського та науково-дослідницького сектора, його співпраці та обміну з міжнародною науковою спільнотою. 

Програма Європейської Комісії MSCA4Ukraine буде реалізована консорціумом, до складу якого увійшли європейське відділення організації «Науковці в небезпеці» (Scholars at Risk Europe), розташоване в Університеті Мейнут (Maynooth University), Ірландія (координатор проєкту), німецький Фонд імені Александра фон Гумбольдта (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation), Асоціація європейських університетів (European University Association), за участі асоційованих партнерів — французької національної програми «ПАУЗА» (PAUSE), що здійснюється на базі Колежу де Франс (Collège de France), а також глобальної мережі «Науковці в небезпеці» (Scholars at Risk Network). 

Прийом заявок від кандидатів розпочнеться у вересні 2022 року. На цей час основна інформація про вимоги щодо подання заявок і посилання для реєстрації, щоб отримувати сповіщення про програму, буде доступна тут.
